about
This track is one of fourteen from the 2019 album, “Memoirs of Hakeford Wart”, issued by the Toronto-based label, Strawberry Rain - a 3LP, expanded version of the now extremely rare album of the same name, self-published in Cape Town, South Africa, by Peter Wale in 1972.
lyrics
RED WEATHER
The sky is changing color,
So run for your life.
Forget your kids and family;
Forget your loving wife;
Your goods, your house, your relatives -
They're destined for the fire.
So, run, my son, and don't look back -
You've stoked your funeral pyre.
It’s red weather and that nasty atom bomb.
Of course, it’s only obvious
That this was meant to be,
So don't complain, don’t go insane -
Review it sensibly.
You have to die, anyway,
So go and have your fun.
You've hours to live, don’t waste your time;
You’re not the only one.
It's red weather and that nasty atom bomb.
There're guys and dolls around the world,
Whose livin's just begun.
Three cheers, my friend,
We've reached the end;
Our race is almost run.
We’re going to have a party
And everyone can come -
Take off your shoes, let down your hair -
There're kicks for everyone!
It’s red weather and that nasty atom bomb.
We owe it to our scientists
And to our heads of state,
But, most, we owe it to ourselves -
We've opened up the gate.
So lift your feasting cup on high,
While I propose a toast:
Enjoy your new found freedom, friends -
Enjoy it while you roast!
It’s red weather and that nasty atom bomb.
Coming to the US in 1974 to further my songwriting aspirations cost me dear. “Your stuff won't sell “, US labels said. Well,
this one, taken from the 4-song LP of a concert I gave in 1972, DID. 300 3-LP vinyl sets of the FULL concert were re-issued in 2019 and sold out (I've yet to be paid, BTW, and kinda late in the game). Could've seen that coming, I guess.
